Okoi Obono-Obla: The Price for Fighting Corruption

“Without strong watchdog institutions, impunity becomes the very foundation upon which systems of corruption are built. And if impunity is not demolished, all efforts to bring an end to corruption are in vain."  — Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Prize laureate.

Standing on the above quote, The Advocates for a Corrupt Free Nigeria (ACFN) have unanimously passed A STRONG VOTE OF CONFIDENCE  on the Chairman, Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, SPIP, and Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Prosecution, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla for his good efforts so far in the panel  constituted by the President,Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari.

We are impressed with the hard work of Mr. Obono-Obla who has made giant strides in the sanctioning and recovery of proceeds of corruption which has almost become systematic and structural before the President's intervention.

Due to his unbending will and sincerity in his work of trying to combat corruption, we have seen corruption fight back in the forms of blackmail, lies and turning of narratives to suit wrong perception just as we have seen in some corrupt highly placed individuals try to rope Mr. Obono-Obla in an orchestrated certificate scandal issue.

They have tried without success to scare off Mr. Obono-Obla from the heroic mission he has embarked on and have resulted to threats and other desperate measures to stop him from pursuing his worthy mandate.

In spite of these signs of backlash, ACFN want to urge Mr. Obono -Obla not to be distracted by all these evil conjectures trying to push him away from the path of honour he is threading. We encourage him not to give up, he should continue to work to change the tide of corruption and help root it out for the sake of posterity and the future of Nigerians yet unborn.

The wonderful effects of his sterling works are evident and the records are there to prove.
We have seen the recovery of illegally acquired landed properties, luxury vehicles and fat bank accounts of top past/present politically exposed persons and private individuals.
Mr. Obono -Obla has set a good path in the fight against corruption in Nigeria and we are proud of him.
We by this statement urge the public and the Federal Government to completely ignore and pay no heed to the antics of these corrupt detractors trying to pull Obono's good reputation down.
It should be viewed simply as "corruption fighting back.”

This fight against corruption is going to be a long haul and we as ACFN will continue to stand by Mr. Okoi Obono -Obla and urge him on.
We wish him well.

Signed:
ACFN
